The youth participated in a B.O.O.T (Building Our Own Testimony) Camp this last week for Youth Conference. We traveled to Brickerhaven, up the Provo Canyon for four days. Some of the breakout sessions included an Etiquette dinner, Dating 101, Righteous Warriors, Putting on the Armor of God and How to Successfully Navigate the Rough Waters of High School. We spent one day in Provo attending the MTC, BYU and some hiked up to the "Y".
The youth also participated in an "Iron Rod Experience". This activity was kicked off by Bishop Merrill talking about knowing your Commander's Expectations (knowing your Savior). The youth were then blindfolded and led to a meadow where tempers and angles awaited them. Their goal was to safely traverse the meadow by holding onto the rod and not letting go. Youth had to go through marshland, streams, big bushes, fallen logs, trees and brush. There were many who were there to try and "tempt" them off the rod. Yet, if they listened closely, there were many angels there whispering the correct direction to take and how to stay on the rod. At the conclusion of the rod, the youth were greeted with a "Well done, thou good and faithful. Welcome to the Celestial Kingdom". They were then given letters their parents had written and sent to sit in the meadow and watch as they others found their way to the Celestial Kingdom by way of the iron rod. For many, this was a very spiritual / emotional experience which had a lot of similarities to what they experience in their day to day life. Following the Iron Rod Experience, we had a testimony meeting.
We also were able to participate in a moonlight chair lift ride and zip line at Sundance. On our way out of Provo, we went to the Payson Temple where the youth were able to participate in baptisms for the dead.
